Surprise, Colorado Isn’t The “Highest” State In The Country Read More: Surprise, Colorado Isn’t The “Highest” State In The Country

To me, one of the most common misconceptions about Colorado is that everybody here smokes marijuana, simply because it’s legal.

Despite Colorado being one of the first states in the country to legalize recreational marijuana back in 2012 – and despite the fact that the state has sold roughly $10 billion worth of cannabis to date – only about 26% of Coloradans actually partake in smoking marijuana.

Colorado might’ve legalized marijuana earlier than other states who chose to follow suit, but is marijuana use higher in the Centennial State than in any other part of the country?

According to Statista, these are the top 5 places where the use of marijuana is at its highest:

Washington State might not get the highest, but the people here definitely enjoy their cannabis fill. Roughly a quarter of the state’s population dabbles with marijuana (25.58%).

Are you surprised Colorado didn’t top this list? (I must admit, I was a little surprised). Believe it or not, only about 26% of Coloradans are getting “Rocky Mountain High” (26.32%).
3. Oregon

Oregon loves their greens. About 27% of people in the Beaver State partake in the use of marijuana (26.99%).

For a state that’s home to a band with a big stoner following (Phish), it’s not much of a surprise that more than a quarter of the state smokes weed (27.04%).
